La Braceria
To celebrate Singapore's National Day, what do we do? EAT, of course! It's the Singaporean way whaaaaaat.... There's no better way to spend a public holiday / mid-week break!
We wanted to try Ristorante Da Valentino at Rifle Range Road but they were fully booked, thanks to a review in The Business Times. :/ hmm... so it's off to La Braceria, a classy little Italian restaurant in a quaint park along Greenleaf Road. If you don't drive slowly, you might even miss it. We did and had to turn back.
We entered with slight apprehension the almost empty restaurant. Only one other table was occupied; I bet they were relieved that we arrived. Everybody else must be at Valentino's!
We had Portobello Braceria to start - four tiny Portobello mushrooms stuffed with vegetables and slathered with creamy mushroomy sauce sitting on scattered Arugula leaves. The taste was great but I wish the mushrooms weren't shitake-size.
For mains, we shared Squid Ink pasta and Beef tenderloin.
We've always wanted to taste squid ink pasta and this one was very good. Mag wondered if she was going to itch to death but it wasn't too bad actually. We had lots of laughs too because after every mouthful, we looked terrible! Like we haven't brushed for years!!
Here's Mag again, trying to look cool with her black mouth!
What goes in must come out, right? .. if you think this is bad, wait til you see what comes out! Haha...

Made squid ink pasta at home the other day - Sarah's request. Ed had bought the squid ink pasta and the squid ink sauce from Rome during his last trip. Thought it was quite good, but felt the sauce was a little diluted (though I didn't add any liquid to it!) and tasteless so had to tambar salt, some sundried tomato paste etc to make it tastier... Will take Sarah to try the one here - she'll be tickled by our black mouths!
Your pics of Mag not very flattering leh... how come never kena hantam?
