Your Favourite Kopitiam
Local coffeeshops have come a long way. We used to just wonder down to any ol' HDB hawker centre for lunch and kopi was just an incidental order.
These days, the 'kopitiam' business is almost like a sure-winner! Some of the old timers have really made a name for themselves and have even gone into franchising (which is sometimes not a good thing becos u tend to get a watered down version of the real thing).
Yakun kaya Toast - yummy..
Recently, we were at a new Killiney kopitiam at Golden Shoe and was surprised to be told that kaya toast was not available during lunch time! And they call these "ALL TIME" favourites? NOT!!!!!
This got us running back to our favourite after lunch haunt - Coffee & Toast - a relatively new kid on the block. It's indoors so we don't have to sweat it out in the heat and the coffee is fragrant and strong. Although... sometimes if your order is made by one of the newer and younger kopi-uncles, the coffee doesn't taste as good... experience counts, eh? The kaya at Coffee & Toast is the best! Creamy, thick, lemak, not too sweet and tasty. Better than all the other places for sure! Pity they don't bottle it for sale :-(
Took this picture from one of my old folders - picture of a jeep (geocaching item) taken at Coffee & Toast. Pity I don't have a better picture...
